forest fires already

saw our first forest fire of the year today - usually they don’t start until may at the earliest (portugal has in the region of 10,000 forest fires per year). no doubt a result of the serious drought we’ve been experiencing this winter. doesn’t show up on the photo, but we could see flames higher than the trees from here. pretty scary, and doesn’t bode well for this summer. was talking to someone the other day who was saying that, because of the drought, we’ll undoubtedly have more fires this year and maybe there won’t be sufficient water to put them out.
