market day

went to arganil market last thursday with the usual carful of kids and neighbours (why did we buy a 7-seater?) and i managed to persuade andy to ask the price of pretty flowers - i’m always looking at them but they seem such an extravagance when the money could be spent on plants that will feed us. well, turned out they were pretty cheap and we’d just been to the multibanco so it felt like we had plenty of cash (never mind what else we should be spending it on) so we splashed out 15 euros on two trays full of pretty things that i’ve already forgotten the names of. now i’ve got them home i can’t decide where to plant them though; above the wall to make a nice colourful welcoming entrance to the quinta, or in my garden which i’ve always wanted to have a big mix of veg, herbs & flowers …? so they´re now sitting on the balcony whilst i ponder. also, as my 2006 biodynamic planting calendar has just arrived (a bit bloody late i say) i’m also going to try and stick to it more this year, but the next flower planting day is 9th march … can i wait that long?
saw hugh at the market bar, he was just about to go off and try and tow an ancient but incredibly funky caravan off a piece of land we’ve got advertised for sale and had to suffer much teasing from us about the trees he’d have to cut down just to get it out, then it would probably fall apart on the journey home, and he’d undoubtedly be stopped by the gnr many times. he got us back good though by phoning later to say he was in poiares police station and they wanted to talk to us to confirm the caravan wasn’t stolen - he was actually at home having got the caravan back there problem-free. ha ha hugh, nice one!
came home and our neighbour anita came back with us for a cuppa, showed her & her 3yr old daughter the rabbits and had a cunning idea … “they’re both male so we can’t keep them together much longer, would you like one?” so fat football rabbit has been rescued from the pot once more, hoorah! and it means we’ll have two males we can use to breed from and not end up with weirdo inbred bunny babies, double hoorah!
