I worked in the Algarve back in 1994. I pick up languages quite quickly, so before I left I got a book from the library. After studying for a while, I thought "no problem", it looks just like Spanish. When I arrived I realised the language LOOKS like Spanish, but sounds completely different ! In the Algarve everyone speaks English, so despite being there for 7 months, my lazy English brain never got much further than Obrigado. Well done with your efforts. I worked in the Algarve back in 1994.

I pick up languages quite quickly, so before I left I got a book from the library.
After studying for a while, I thought “no problem”, it looks just like Spanish.

When I arrived I realised the language LOOKS like Spanish, but sounds completely different !

In the Algarve everyone speaks English, so despite being there for 7 months, my lazy English brain never got much further than Obrigado.
