Another bloody annoying wildlife sound – that of a hoopoe waking you up at 6am and then keeping you awake for the next 2 hours with its irritatingly repetitive noise (I thought the cuckoos were bad, at least they don’t seem to be early risers). Don’t let anyone tell you it’s all peace and quiet in the countryside …

New Holland European Bird Guide
– More than 500 bird species, including all those that commonly breed, pass through or winter in Britain and Europe, plus a number of regular vagrants. It has 70 beautifully illustrated and very accurate full-page colour plates illustrating a variety of plumages and poses for most species. In total the book contains 1,700 bird images. The concise text is packed with essential information on the identification, calls, distribution and status of each species and the account for each species is on the page opposite its illustration.

I agree they do wake up rather early. But still they’re such a happy exuberant sounding thing. (Well I say that, maybe my hoopoe isn’t a hoopoe at all – my speakers don’t work so I can’t double check with your link!).
I like it when the birds start waking us up early and being happy about the place. Pretty soon it will all go quiet in the afternoon so you can siesta anyway.
this morning it was the hoopoe, a cuckoo, and fireworks – ugh!
I agree, that is a bit much! My least fave morning noises are the 6am winter hunters, quiet in themselves, who set off our three highly trained (well not quite) guard dogs (they actually have to get up from the sofas to bark and howl). REALLY annoying.
Hi… I’m in Andalucia, just found this post while searching for some info; we too have hoopoes around the house, and a pair call endlessly through most nights, they’re nesting nearby. But it’s not the typical short 3-in-a-row call that most soundclips seem to be, this is one call (about 1 second) repeated every 3 seconds or so. It’s the same soft tone though, so I’m guessing it’s not a different bird altogether. Any ideas?
not sure what bird you’re hearing, we have something similar but don’t know what it is – don’t think it’s a hoopoe but suppose it could be! let us know if you do find out
Me and my Friend just learned about the Hoopoe, and we love this little bird i need some pics for my project about wild life, can you take some pics for me and my friend lucas. Thank you for your time hoopoefan.
