Hi... I'm in Andalucia, just found this post while searching for some info; we too have hoopoes around the house, and a pair call endlessly through most nights, they're nesting nearby. But it's not the typical short 3-in-a-row call that most soundclips seem to be, this is one call (about 1 second) repeated every 3 seconds or so. It's the same soft tone though, so I'm guessing it's not a different bird altogether. Any ideas?

I agree, that is a bit much! My least fave morning noises are the 6am winter hunters, quiet in themselves, who set off our three highly trained (well not quite) guard dogs (they actually have to get up from the sofas to bark and howl). REALLY annoying.

I agree they do wake up rather early. But still they're such a happy exuberant sounding thing. (Well I say that, maybe my hoopoe isn't a hoopoe at all - my speakers don't work so I can't double check with your link!).

I like it when the birds start waking us up early and being happy about the place. Pretty soon it will all go quiet in the afternoon so you can siesta anyway.
