Natural Tiles (in the Kitchen)

The natural unglazed tiles were a little more expensive than the ones we first bought (and sold on, as they weren’t exactly what we wanted). Now that they have been laid, we’re very happy that we bought what we wanted, and didn’t compromise.

I used an angle grinder to cut the tiles to shape.

Some of the tiles were almost a centimetre smaller than others! Nightmare.

Pesadelo.

Now we need to treat them with a wax-based product, and then grout between them.

And I think we will use the same tiles in the bathroom, where I need to sort out drains before the tiles can be laid.

It is slow work, because everything has to be done around work in the gardens, cleaning the land for the summer, earning cash and occassionally remembering to have fun and socialise!

    Hi Andy,
the tiles look great, having laid several hundred myself I know how hard a job it is. Great picture of you at the end that proud look says it all. Keep up the good work.

    Hi Andy
your kitchen tiles look great. When I lived in the UK I laid loads of reclaimed Victorian terra cotta unglazed tiles. An excellant way of sealing them is with linsead oil. A few layers and lots of elbow grease.
Still have not sold here in NZ.
    Cheers Kevin
