Death’s Head Hawk Moth

Our neighbour found one of these a few months ago, and brought it round to see if we knew what it was.

Thanks to Zoe for enlightening us – it’s the larva of the Death’s Head Hawk Moth (Acherontia Atropos), more information and photos at:  http://tpittaway.tripod.com/sphinx/a_atr.htm

That’s beautiful! I have a photo of one of the moths that my girlfriend found on her shed one day (South coast, UK). I like the description in the link……… ‘squeaks when molested’ (the larva, not my girlfriend). One day I hope to be WWOOFing in Portugal. Last year it was Southern England, but it would be nice to have a Summer!
