    Sardão, very common in Portugal and there are reported sightings of some over 1 meter long in the Gerês. They are completely harmless and have a long longevity.

    thanks nuno! but i think it’s actually a Lagarto-de-água (Lacerta schreiberi).

    Sorry Nuno, but seems Sophie is right, I bought ‘Geobotanical Guide of the Serra da Estrela’ in my attempt to get knowledge of the local flora and fauna, and this blue headed beauty looks like ‘Lacerta schreiberi’ as pictured in the book.
