Food Inc

We watched this last night and although I felt it concentrated too much on the meat industry (large-scale fruit and veg production is just as bad for the planet) it’s well worth watching.  Recommend it to your friends.  Here’s a the first part on youtube, and you can watch the rest there too.

Quick Bread

Today I’ve lit the stove, more to cheer us up on a dull rainy day than because we need the heat, but colder days are on the way and the time of baking and bread making is upon us again, so I’m wondering about buying this, anyone have it / can recommend it?

What Will I do With all Those Courgettes?

It’s that time of year again. More courgettes than you know what to do with! I’m in the UK at the moment but here’s a handy book for our quinta-sitters – you’ll find it on the kitchen bookshelf! Everyone else, if you haven’t got a copy, can find it on amazon via the link below.

Blue Gold: World Water Wars

We’ve been watching quite a few DVDs lately, mostly in the hot afternoons whilst stoning our huge cherry harvest ready for sun-drying and jam-making. “Blue Gold: World Water Wars” is fantastic and should be compulsory viewing – so buy, beg, borrow, or steal it!

Another DVD that everyone should watch is “Establishing a Food Forest the Permaculture Way” by Geoff Lawton (preview below) and on our wish list is another by the same guy “Harvesting Water the Permaculture Way“.

Some Changes / Alguns Mudanças

First – you may have noticed that there are now links to books at the bottom of most posts. This is for two main reasons: 1. if you buy the books we get a commission which we then exchange for more books for our library. 2. we think it adds to the information in the blog and that the books are useful and interesting.
I’d be interested in people’s opinions – I’ve tried to keep the links unobtrusive and relevant – but let me know if you think otherwise. There are some links to amazon where I couldn’t find the book I wanted to link to (most are books we’ve read and therefore would recommend) on either www.eco-logicbooks.co.uk or www.greenbooks.co.uk

Second – I’m going to try to write posts in both English and Portuguese. Sorry Portuguese people for what I am going to do to your beautiful language. Corrections welcome!

Eu vou tentar escriver em Inglês e Português. Desculpe aos pessoas Portuguese para o que eu vai fazer a sua língua bonita! Gostaria correções!

Can’t decide if I want to fork out £8.83 for this or not.  Funky title and cover but probably not going to tell me anything I don’t already know … ?
